Generic Zanaflex (Tizanidine) a muscle relaxant is used to help relax the tense, rigid muscles caused by spasticity. Generic Zanaflex is prescribed for people with multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, and other disorders that produce protracted muscles spasms.
Direction
Take exactly as directed by the physicain. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, but if it is almost time for the next dose, just skip the missed dose and take only the one regularly scheduled. Avoid taking a double dose.
Store at room temperature, away from heat and moisture.
Cautions
Before starting your Zanaflex treatment, tell your doctor your medical history, especially if you have any allergies, low blood pressure, liver or heart disease, kidney disease, or eye disease. Limit alcohol consumption because alcohol increases the dizziness and drowsiness effects of Zanaflex. You should use caution in situations that require alertness, such as driving a car or operating machinery. In pregnant women, Zanaflex should be used only when clearly needed; consult a doctor. It is not known whether Zanaflex passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Side Effects
Side effects, that may occur during treatment, include drowsiness, dry mouth, flushing, or dizziness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor.
Check with your doctor as soon as possible if you experience increased muscle weakness; trouble urinating or lack of bladder control; or change in emotions, mood, or behavior. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor.
Overdose
An overdose of Zanaflex can impair breathing and lead to coma. If you suspect an overdose of Zanaflex, seek emergency treatment immediately.
Additional Information
Do not share this medicine with others for whom it was not prescribed. Do not use this medicine for other health conditions. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
